Tools and Resources

We are committed to preventing sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) before it occurs. By continuously documenting and freely sharing all of our methods, tools and approaches, we aim to support others working toward the same goal.

Our Empowered Aid At A Glance section gives an overview of our work and the types of resources available.

Our Case Study Library section contains case studies detailing the adaptation of Empowered Aid tools and processes in various contexts, and the findings and recommendations that arose from these projects. The methodologies used in these case studies are drawn from research conducted over the course of the Empowered Aid project which have since been applied to several different countries and organizations, with the continuous goal of centering the voices and contextual expertise of women and girls in preventing sexual exploitation and abuse in their communities.

Our Making Aid Distributions Safer section shares findings from our participatory action research in Lebanon and Uganda with 55 refugee women and girl co-researchers, and their communities. Reports from each country provide a deep dive into the findings, as well as briefs for each sector (food, shelter, WASH, fuel and firewood, and cash and voucher assistance). Change happens when we put that knowledge to use, so this section also includes findings from our work in Uganda and Lebanon applying refugee women's and girls’ recommendations for making aid safer across six different aid distributions, and measuring how they worked. The reports, briefs, and articles provide insight into SEA prevention in  these contexts, and highlight factors that may increase the risk of SEA in any distribution.

Our Participatory Resources section includes facilitation guides and toolkits from our participatory action research in Lebanon and Uganda, as well as instructional guides and toolkits on using participatory methods in programming with conflict-affected women and girls, and their communities, to collectively uncover their deep knowledge on SEA and mitigation strategies.

Our Adapting Empowered Aid to Your Context section shares toolkits and case studies for adapting the approaches and SEA risk mitigation strategies to your setting. By providing real, practical examples of SEA prevention, anyone can adapt and apply these life-saving measures.
